Calgary Heating: Can Your Furnace Handle the Winter?

Posted at December 26, 2012 | By : | Categories : Heating & Air Conditioning | Comments Off on Calgary Heating: Can Your Furnace Handle the Winter?

Winter has finally arrived in full force, and it’s only going to get worse in the next few months.  Normally, it’s best to have your furnace checked before the weather turns cold enough for you to need it, but it’s still not too late to make sure that it’s running properly for the Calgary heating season.

By now you should know if your furnace is working or not, but the question is:

Is your furnace working safely and efficiently?

Faulty furnaces can quietly release carbon monoxide into the air in your home, resulting in everything from nausea to drowsiness (and in some rare extreme cases can be fatal). Beyond air-quality concerns, a furnace which is in bad shape has a high probability of not running efficiently, resulting in energy bills that are higher than they need to be.

Here are some ClearView tips to ensure a safe, energy-efficient furnace during the winter months:

  • Get your furnace inspected at least once a year. If needed, go for a full furnace tune-up. Our professional staff specializes in furnace maintenance services, and we won’t ever sell you a service you don’t need, guaranteed. • Make sure the furnace is cleaned regularly.  Dust and lint build-up around the burner compartment is particularly undesirable. Not only can it be a fire hazard, it will contribute to reducing the efficiency of your furnace.
  • Don’t store things around the furnace. You don’t want to obstruct the air flow around the furnace in any way. This will ensure proper, safe and efficient functioning.
  • Replace the furnace filter. If you haven’t already, it’s best to change the furnace filter before winter. During the course winter, it’s also a good idea to check the filter every month and replace it if necessary.

These tips will help make sure that your furnace runs safely and efficiently throughout the winter. The last thing you want is for your furnace to break down in the middle of winter. You don’t want to be left in the cold.
